Please note, i am a proud bengali...n above all a proud indian (sounds dramatic i know) but had to mention,coz whats coming up is complete crass as far as my opinion as a cine-enthusiast goes (n its a bong-something unfortunately!) i am a lot into regional movies apart from hindi, english and international stuff...n i have seen the entire series of manichitrathazhu, apthamitra, chandramukhi and bhool bhulaiya... and loved manichitrathazhu n bhool bhulaiya the most...for the simple fact that shobhana n vidya had such intensity n genuinity to their execution. but people...out of all the floose in the world, here's another one to join the wagon [trust me its lamer than chandramukhi ;)..though i have loved varied tamil movies offhand!]...presenting Swapan Saha's RAJMAHAL...featuring prosenjit, Rachna Banerjee, Abhishek, Anu Chowdhury and others! nonetheless, lemme add for all those who havnt experienced bong talent in filmmaking..let this movie not mislead you! we have the satyajit rays,hrishikesh mukherjees, ritwik ghotoks and aparna sens as well! so there... but yeah, watch this one...i still wish Ray was alive, this version would have then been one of the best...damnit! however, cheers!!!

The idea is to choose 12 hard-to-get films that we want to see, name them, and tell why we have chosen them as part of our holy grail. Pat at Doodad Kind of Town tagged me. I didn?t think I could do it, but I was wrong. Some of these films are very hard to impossible to get, others not so much. Here they are, in no particular order. All I Desire (1953) Director : Douglas Sirk I had a chance to see this Barbara Stanwyck vehicle on the big screen and just totally blew it. The story of a mother who abandoned her family coming back into the picture sounded delicious, and it?s by Sirk, one of my favorite directors. India: Matri Bhumi (1959) Director : Roberto Rossellini A very bad print of this film was brought to Chicago early this year for an extremely rare showing. It sold out, and another showing was added. I was out of town and missed my chance to see it. Reputed to be Rossellini?s masterpiece. Someone has to restore it someday? Stromboli (1950) Director : Roberto Rossellini Another Rossellini I have been wanting to see since Martin Scorsese pointed it out in his documentary on Italian filmmaking. I can get a copy on VHS, but so far, I haven?t. The Apu Trilogy (1959) Director : Satyajit Ray I tried to see this monumental trilogy once, but it was on VHS and the print was terrible. Satyajit Ray's follow-up to Pather Panchali falls short, but is still excellent. The first film of Satyajit Ray?s Apu Trilogy, Pather Panchali, was such a great film that, naturally, the second film in the series was bound to suffer a bit of a letdown. Thus, Aparajito (The Unvanquished), based on the novel Aparajita, by Bibhutibhushan Banerjee, is not the unadulterated great piece of art that Pather Panchali is. Like... ...
