W?a?ciwie gdyby nie j?zyk hindi, indyjskie stroje mieszka?ców wioski i piosenki, pomy?la?abym, ?e to western ameryka?ski z Johnem Waynem w rolach g?ównych. Mamy jednak do czynienia z tzw. curry westernem na wzór spaggethi westernu. Ja jednak Sholay nazwa?abym masala westernem ze wzgl?du na mieszank? dramatu, akcji, komedii, romansu, piosenek. W tym filmie jest wszystko, a zarazem to wszystko cudownie ze sob? wspó?gra. Od pierwszych chwil - scena w poci?gu - widz wpada w dynamiczn? akcj?, strzelanin?, bijatyki, gonitw? na koniach za poci?giem. BigB i Dharmendra oraz Sanjeev Kumar hipnotyzuj?. Dwóch pierwszych i ich kultowa przyja?? na ekranie s? niezapomnianym doznaniem. Ruszamy wraz z nimi poci?giem, by nast?pnie przenie?? si? i do wi?zienia z prze?miesznym naczelnikiem (a' la Charlie Chaplin czy te? Hitler), pojecha? motorem w rytm cudownej piosenki Yeh Dosti, a nast?pnie przenie?? si? do wioski, gdzie obydwaj zostaj? zwerbowani przez by?ego oficera policji, w celu obrony tego miejsca niczym z "Siedmiu wspania?ych". Konbanwa / Bonan vesperon, karaj amikoj: Hollywood may have George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, but Bollywood can say they were home to G.P. Sippy . I mention this because the famed producer of the 1975 70mm?widescreen (with stereo sound) smash Bollywood movie Sholay ("flames") has died, as per BBC News . Even if you didn't know the Bollywood scene, it's likely you've heard of Sholay . It broke all box?office records after its original release and is now considered a classic in its genre. (G.P. Sippy's son, Ramesh Sippy, was the director.) Eros International did a substandard DVD release a few years ago. I hope one day to see a proper (2.35:1?) video of this classic one day. I also hope to eventually catch up with the rest of the Sippy catalogue, although you never know. Namasté. ...

Information about Mukul Anand's DUS Until his unexpected death in 1997, director Mukul S Anand worked for this action movie which had raised great expectations to become his opus magnum. It featured Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty, Vinod Khanna and Rahul Dev. Sanjay was to play Captain Raja Sethi who works for an anti-terror unit and chases an Afghan terrorist (Raveena in her first negative role) but gets caught and tortured while his partner (Salman), accompanied by a journalist (Shilpa), tries to save him. About 40% of the scenes had been shot when Anand, shortly after returning from a schedule in Utah, USA, suddenly passed away. His partner in production Nitin Manmohan tried at first to complete the film with an other director (in an interview from 1998, Sanjay mentioned Ramesh Sippy), but in the end only the film soundtrack was released in 1999 as ?Dus ? Tribute to Mukul S Anand?, with Mukul?s widow Anita stating that Dus was Mukul?s baby from the very beginning and the end result was to remain an "unfulfilled dream" . Mukul's brother Rahhul, however, allegedly plans to revive the project ten years after his brother's demise. Informationen zu Mukul Anands unvollendetem Film DUS Regisseur Mukul S. Anand arbeitete bis zu seinem Tod an diesem Action-Film, von dem man sich Großes versprach und der schon vorher als sein Opus Magnum gehandelt wurde. Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon und Shilpa Shetty spielten die Hauptrollen, in Nebenrollen wirkten Vinod Khanna und Rahul Dev mit. Sanjays Figur in diesem Dus-Film, Captain Raja Sethi, arbeitet für eine Anti-Terror-Einheit und jagt eine afghanische Terroristin (Raveena in ihrer ersten negativen Rolle). Als er gefangengenommen und gefoltert wird, versucht sein Partner (Salman), ihn zu retten, während seine Freundin (Shilpa) als Journalistin seine Mission begleitet. Dus war zu 40% vollendet, als Mukul Anand kurz nach der Rückkehr von Dreharbeiten in Utah/USA völlig unerwartet starb. Sein Produktionspartner Nitin Manmohan beschloss, den Film mit einem anderen Regisseur zu vollenden; im Februar 1998 erwähnte Sanjay in einem Filmfare-Interview, dass Ramesh Sippy nun die Regie übernommen habe. Danach verliert sich für mich jede Spur des Filmes. Angeblich wurde sein Release für 1999 angekündigt, und es gibt sogar ein Werbeposter mit Sanjay und Salman aus diesem Jahr. Heute mal wieder ein Film aus den Siebzigern und da ich Hema Malini ja so toll finde, gibt es wohl nichts besseres als " Seeta Aur Geeta"   Seeta Aur Geeta R: Ramesh Sippy D: Hema Malini, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Manorama, Honey Irani Trade Classification: Blockbuster Indien: 1972 ca 162 min Story: Bei einen Gewitter findet ein wohlhabendes Ehepaar unterschlupft bei ärmlichen Leuten. Die Frau ist Hochschwanger und gebärt noch in diesen Haus Zwillinge. Da die Männer gerade noch einen passenden Arzt suchen, behält die Frau, ohne Zustimmung der Mutter, eins von den Babys. Jahre später lebt Seeta ( Hema Malini ), da ihre Eltern gestorben sind, unter den Fittichen von ihrer tyrannischen Tante (Manorama), die vor allem auf das Erbe von scharf ist. Geeta ( Hema Malini ) ist als Straßenmusikantin aufgewachsen, und beide haben von ihren Leben genug und reisen von Zuhause aus. Durch einen Zufall landen die beiden in das jeweilige Heim der andern. Kritik: "Das doppelte Lottchen" auf indisch! Okay, der Vergleich passt nicht ganz, da die Ausgangsgeschichte etwas anders ist, aber Ähnlichkeiten sind trotzdem nicht von der Hand zuweisen. Doch "Seeta Aur Geeta" will viel weniger eine indische Version von dem bekannten Erich Kästner Buchs sein, sondern möchte viel lieber ein reiner Masala Entertainer sein- und das ist er auch . Veteran film maker G P Sippy, passed away in Mumbai at the ripe age of 93 last week. Gopaldas Parmanand Sippy started off as a carpet merchant, turned a construction magnet and then plunged into filmmaking in 1951 with the Dev Anand film Sazaa. In a career spanning over five decades, Sippy had produced 17 films and directed six. In his hey days he was known as Mr Blockbuster. But Sholay remains his landmark best yet. Screen pays homage to the filmaker who was known for his “outspokenness� and who held his own. Brahmachari (1968) Written by Sachin Bhowmick, directed by Bhappi Sonie, starring Shammi Kapoor, Rajashree, Mumtaz, Sachin and Asit Sen, the film ran into trouble as Sippy locked horns with his director Sonie over creative differences. The film was almost shelved and Sippy had but renounced filmdom then. But good sense prevailed, the two made amends and Brahmachari turned out to be a big blockbuster with memorable storyline and music. Years later, it inspired another kiddie flick Mr India which was also a hit.
