Film. Paying Guest (Bollywood Ent) is a 1957Hindi movie directed by Subodh Mukherjee. The film stars Dev Anand and Nutan along with Shobha Khote. Mere Sanam is a 1965 Hindi film based on a story by Narendra Bedi, produced by G.P. Sippy and directed by Amar Kumar. Films dialogues and screenplay were by Rajinder Singh Bedi. The film became a hit at the box office. The film stars Asha Parekh, Biswajeet, Pran, Rajindernath and Mumtaz. The music of the film was by O.P. Nayyar and the lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri .......................................... Biswajit (sometimes spelled Biswajeet), started his career in 1960 with the Bengali film, 'Natun Fasal'. Earlier, in spite of family oppositions, young Biswajit played a tiny role in a Bengali film "Dak Harakara". After a couple of hit films in Calcutta like 'Mayamrigo' (1960) and 'Dui Bhai' (1961), Biswajit went to Bombay. In 1962, he catapulted to fame with his superhit film, Bees Saal Baad. Even though Shammi Kapoor was the reigning heart-throb of the masses and considered the king of romance in the 60s, Biswajit was a name to reckon with during that time. He acted in notable films like 'Mere Sanam' (1965), Shehnai (1964), 'Yeh Raat Phir Naa Ayegi' (1966), 'April Fool' (1964), 'Do Kaliyan' (1968), and 'Sharaarat' (1972). Parasmani Acharya is a doctor of medicine and is an expert in providing medical treatment. But when I heard her songs at Taranaa, I thought that her voice alone was enough to cure people and the degree of medicine was perhaps an over-qualification :) Parasmani's voice takes you back to the past of sweet memories. Our mind starts hearing Geeta Dutt's and Shamshad Begum's everlasting voices. I have been very lucky to have many wonderful songs sung with her. Ya, I know standard of lyrics in hindi movies is rapidly going southwards, and though they're still accepted by audience, may be it's all about getting a immediate kick, rather than having something to relish in long term. Hmm.. commercialization at its crudest best. Music of SRK and Farah Khan's latest movie cashes on this current trend, and its weird. Farah Khan is no Deepa Mehta, her 'Main Hoon Na' was a big big torture, and most irritating part is the way she and her brother present themselves on screen as if they are biggest critics and know-it-all about cinema and all. Lets leave Farah bashing for some other time, and coming to the point, last evening for the first time I heard the complete 'Dard-E-Disco' song, whole song is based on rhythm which is good n catchy...but lyrics are so weirdly funny specially these lines.... something something......... abb phirta hoon mein, london , paris , new york , san francisco dil mein mere hai, dard-e-disco, dard-e-disco, dard-e-disco something something......... dil tod gaya mujhse chhod gaya , woh peechale mahine ke chhabis ko dil mein mere hai, dard-e-disco, dard-e-disco Reminds of one the interviews of Late Majrooh Sultanpuri in which he quipped about present day lyricists.... "Aana milla diyaa?.. jaana milla diya....aur ban gaye lyricist" :-) ...

inspired by thakur's post on mehfooz, here are two songs i have developed a strong liking for in recent days.. the first one titled " hum hain raahi pyaar ke " from the movie "nau do gyarah" (1957), great trio of singer kishore kumar, lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri & musician sachin dev burman, and to top it all filmed on the evergreen dev anand :) hum hain raahi pyaar ke, humse kuchh na boliye jo bhi pyaar se mila, hum ussi ke ho liye dard bhi hume kabool, chainn bhi hume kabool humne har tarah ke phool, haar main piro liye dhoop thi naseeb main, dhoop main liya hai dum chaandni mili to hum, chaandi main so liye dil pe aasra kiye, hum to bas yunhi jiye ek kadam pe hans liye, ek kadam pe ro liye raah main pade hain hum, kab se aap ki kasam dekhiye to kam se kam, boliye na boliye for some reasons, the above song brings an instant smile to my face, i really don't know why.. probably it's the irony that while the lyrics are so pragmatic in everyday life, it's difficult to follow them nonetheless.. or may be it's just the reflection ki abhi tak koi mila nahi hai :) the second one titled " saiyyan " from the album "kailasa - jhoomo re" (2007), sung composed & music directed by kailash kher in assitance with his band members naresh & paresh.. heere moti main na chahoon, main to chahoon sangam tera main to teri saiyyan, tu hai mera saiyyan.. saiyyan.. tu jo choo le pyaar se, aaram se mar jaon aa jaa chanda baahon main, tujh ma ...
