My favourite and also my least favourite gig of the festival. I love Lucky Soul, and it's always a joy to see them live. This must be the fourth or fifth time I've seen them.

But it was a festival gig, so it was a short set. The stage was too small. The lighting was completely wrong. The stage was running about half an hour late, which meant I missed Rose Dougall. The people on the door were the least friendly and helpful of any of the venues I shot at (which is putting it nicely).

With a bit more time put between be and the Great Escape Festival, I've been able to edit my photos a bit more objectively - no mad rush to get them turned around quickly, and my irritation at the conditions at Terraces have subsided a bit too, so this is hopefully a bit better than the other Lucky Soul shot I took.

I went to see Lucky Soul last night, who are one of my favourite bands. Because I was there as an actual, paying ticket holder (I know - how rare!) I only had my little Sony W1. For some reason, it's a lot more difficult to shoot a gig with a five year old £150 compact camera, than it is with brand new kit worth several thousand. Who knew?

Is George Foreman really the greatest heavyweight and Muhammad Ali is just an overrated bum who got lucky against Foreman in Zaire and never gave him a rematch? And the only reason Foreman struggled against Lyle and Young is because he was mentally wrecked after the defeat in Zaire and was ring rusty against Lyle and still won by knockout. If the 1969 - 1974 version of Foreman before he fought Ali that is fought Young and Lyle then he would have destroyed them both within 4 rounds whereas Ali was trailing against Lyle before he knocke him out and arguably lost against Young albiet Ali was out of shape and under trained but we could use excuses for Foreman losing to Lyle as well ie Foreman never acclimatized to Puerto Rico and never trained riught either. And as we know he desperatley wanted to avenge his defeat in Zaire but had to wait 3 years before Ali was 35 and past his best. Therefore Foreman couldn't get up for anyone else except for Ali. So what would George have gained by beating a 35 year old past his best Ali? And Foreman could have reigned for a long time if he beat Ali in Zaire as the only person who would have probably beaten him is Larry Holmes. And as we know Geroge destroyed men who gave Ali hards fights or beat him in Frazier, Norton, Chuvalo and Wepner. All of them lasted a total of 15 rounds in 5 rounds with Foreman whereas they all beat or gave Ali hard fights as well as flooring him and breaking his jaw in Frazier, Norton and Wepner lol. And Ali also struggled or went the distance against other men who would have been wrecked by Foreman at his best in Shavers, Ellis, Bonavena, Doug Jones and Cooper lol. Plus George got cut in sparring and couldn't spar or train properly until the cut healed for his fight against Ali which wouldn't have made things any easier for Foreman. And the ropes were also loose, Foreman's corner never gave him the right instructions and he fought a very foolish fight instead of using the piston like jab he used against Frazier, Norton, Chuvalo and Wepner. Okay maybe George isn't the greatest but he should be the regarded as the greatest from the 1970s. And maybe Ali was just a mediocre boxer who got lucky on that particular night and wanted no part of Foreman in a rematch. I happen to think Lennox Lewis, Holyfield, Holmes and Mike Tyson would destroy both Foreman and Ali but Foreman's career should have been better than it was as he was more impressive against opponents Ali struggled against and never got a rematch against Ali. When you think about it, who did Ali actually look impressive against besides Foreman in that particualr fight? He beat an aging Liston, struggled against an out of shape Frazier in rematches, struggled and arguably lost 3 times against Norton and also struggled against other men whereas Foreman destroyed all those same men lol. acclimatized for Young even, sorry. I am not being a crusader but I feel Foreman would have conquered Ali in a rematch if he had been given the opportunity. Ali just wanted everyone to love him and wanted no one else to get the limelight. He did it with every opponent he seen as threat to his legacy and it made him seem demnented and nasty especially against Frazier. It just shows what kind of world we live in when people adore and love this man after the way he treated his fellow pros. I will admit he was a good boxer and wasn't a bum as I said in the question - just said that for a laugh - I am just saying maybe Foreman had the potential to be the greatest from that era but Ali never gave him the chance to porove it in a rematch which I think Foreman would have triumphed in. Ans Foreman could have won under deifferent circumstances in their first fight ie if the fight had been in America, if the ropes hadn't been loose and if Foreman trained properly and never got cut in sparring. total of 15 rounds in 5 fights with Foreman even. I disagree as that is totally different from what I said. Think about it what satisfaction is Foreman going to get from beating a washed up Ali? He wouldn't have been as fired up after that as he wanted Ali first. Think about it? Beating Frazier, beating Norton, Beating Shavers, beating Holmes would have meant nothing to George if he never got Ali. Everyone is different. That would have ate away at him even if he regained the title which I think he would have if he got a rematch with Ali. I think that clears that up. George wasn't motivated for Young as he was promised Ali for about 1 year, hence his lackadaisical display against Young who he would destroyed if he were even remotelt motivated lol. Although I amn a fan of Jimmy Young as he was a very crafty and smart fighter. Foreman would have developed the skills he had in his later career in the late 1970s if he never had his Damascus Road experience as they would have just came with age and experience. That is why I will always say we never saw the best of Foreman in my opinion.
