Roadside Romeo is a forthcoming Bollywood animated film that will have Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor lend their voices to animated characters for the first time.[1] Written and directed by debutante Jugal Hansraj, who acted in films such as Mohabbatein (2000) and Salaam Namaste (2005), this will be the first animated film that is an India-U.S. co-production of Yash Raj Films and the Walt Disney Company.[2] The film will utilize state-of-the-art computer-animation technology done entirely in India[2] as well as feature music, dances, songs and romance just like any other film produced by Yash Raj Films.[3] Roadside Romeo is scheduled to release on October 24, 2008 and will be produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra under Yash Raj Films.[4] The alliance by Yash Chopra and Dick Cook is a first in the field of animation.[2] The first trailer of the film was shown on October 12, 2007 with the release of the film Laaga Chunari Mein Daag.[5] According to souces, Yash Raj Films are reported to have completed 60% of the film's work in November 2007.[6] The entire project has been executed at Visual Computing Labs (VCL), a division of TATA Elxsi Ltd. VCL has been involved right from visual conceptualisation, character design to animation & final output. This is the first time that a 3D animated mainstream feature film of this magnitude is coming out of India. plot: A rich, cool, spoiled brat of a dog is abandoned on the wicked streets of Mumbai. He faces new situations and dangerous, loony characters, the likes of which he has never met before. Yash Raj Films (YRF) has entered into an agreement with The Walt Disney Studios, world-renowned leaders in family entertainment, to exclusively create a series of original computer-animated feature films. It was announced today by Yash Chopra, Chairman of YRF, and Dick Cook, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. The collaboration marks the first time for both companies to enter a co-production to produce films in India. Each film under this alliance will be creatively overseen by Aditya Chopra and worked on with an inventive array of leading local talent. The first film to be co-produced in this alliance will be Roadside Romeo, set to release in 2008.
