"Nallar Mauli Manikyakkalle..." - One of the beautiful padam(lyric) from KachaDevayani Kathakali. Kachan comes to Sukracharya to learn Mrithasanjeevini (a chant to awake the dead). There he meets Devayani, daughter of Sukracharya. In this padam he's trying to make Devayani happy.

Since I'm leaving town, I decided to call a bunch of folks from the department together for a picnic. It went smashingly, with a nice mix of people (though others were sorely missed). From left to right, this is Tiffany, Seung Oh, Brian, Devayani, Traci (who just got her master's -- congrats!), and Joaquin, Traci's newish boyfriend. Oh and also that's my toes in the middle of the shot. We had a good time and the spread was great -- egg/bread/cheese "brunch" dish, croissants, muffins, dal, rose petal milk, fruit, and MIMOSAS mmmmmmm.

I took this photo at the Kadu Malleshwara temple in Malleswaram. The temple is a protected monument and was built by Venkoji, the step brother of Shivaji in 1699. My house in Malleswaram was bang opposite to this temple. Now the whole place is a temple complex with multiple temples jostling to attract the devoted amonst us.
